Burn Hazard: MSR Recalls More Than 60,000 Cooking Pots

CAMPING GEAR

On February 22, Cascade Designs, parent company of MSR, issued a voluntary recall for more than 60,000 camp cooking pots in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. According to MSR, the pot handle of select cook pots in the Trail Lite and Reactor series can “come loose or disengaged, potentially spilling contents, including hot liquids, and creating a burn hazard.”

The company asks consumers with pots included in the recall to immediately stop using the product and contact Cascade Designs for a free replacement handle or compatible lifter.

Affected pots range in size from 1L to 2L, and were sold individually or as part of the PocketRocket Stove Kit, Reactor Stove System, and various Trail Lite Cook Sets. They retailed from January 2008 through October 2023 and cost between $40 and $290.

Cascade issued the recall in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and said it had received 22 reports of the pot handle either detaching or becoming loose, resulting in two reports of burn injuries.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled camping cooking pot, and contact Cascade Designs for instructions on submitting a photo of the product to receive a free replacement pot handle/lifter,” Cascade Design’s recall announcement reads. “The replacement pot handle/lifter does not require tools to install.”
